Esther Howe :: Editing, Proofreading, Print Layout/Design

Life comes together in ways I never expect. An avid reader from childhood, my interest in turn of phrase and structure of language led to an eye for spelling, grammar, and good syntax. Years of drawing and painting gave me a sense of design. Yet I would never have dreamed that my career would combine these two loves in freelance work doing editing and graphic design.

I received a B.A., summa cum laude, in English Literature with a minor in History from Geneva College in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania in 2000. Upon graduation, I was hired as production manager and editorial assistant by Crown & Covenant Publications, a small Christian publishing house in Pittsburgh. An admitted greenhorn at the time, my background in English helped me gain editing and proofreading skills, and my patient employers gave me the software training I needed to work on the production of a monthly magazine, and the layout and design of books, brochures, advertisements, and recordings. It was during my two and a half years at C&C that I first met Jen Tinker, when UnlimitedFOCUS overhauled C&C's web site.

Currently, I live in Arlington, Massachusetts, with my husband, Daniel, and our baby son. Life as a stay-at-home mom intersects nicely with my graphics and editing work, and I enjoy the opportunity (through the magic of cyberspace) to work with UnlimitedFOCUS. In my (limited!) spare time I enjoy chocolate, knitting, and books. My favorite authors include Dorothy Sayers, Barbara Tuchman, and J. R. R. Tolkien.
